2008 is here, with lots of changes for many of us! Vermont Beads & Fibers is offering a lot of new classes, at different times,too, so come in and check them out!

We've got luscious and luxurious yarns, including several local Vermont yarns - in keeping with our "Buy Local" philosophy - along with a gorgeous hand-dyed lace weight,Mongolian cashmere, new sock yarns,books and patterns ,and lots more. And, of course, there are new beads, including some semi-precious stones, Thai silver,colorful floral enamel "slides", new resin beads, new 8/0 seed bead colors, more sterling findings,etc.

Come and join us on Wednesday evenings for Community Knitting, from 5- 9 pm - knitting's a sociable pursuit, and a great way to connect,get inspired and help others when they're stuck.

Classes are small and intimate, allowing for one-on-one teaching. Further Class Info is also at the bottom of this page

 

FEBRUARY CLASSES

Advanced Wire Work
Mon. Feb. 4 - - 6-9 pm ~ $25 + supplies. 1 Evening session.

In this advanced level class, you will learn the techniques of wire bending, making your own clasps, using a hammer and anvil, and much more. In this class, you will be able to make earrings, a pendant, ring or whatever you desire.

Earring Techniques with Kathy
Wed.. Feb. 6 OR Tues. Feb. 19 - 1-3 pm - $20 + supplies. 1 Afternoon session.
In this class designed for individuals of all skill level, you will learn many fun techniques in jewelry making. You will be taught the different ways of bending wire snd using beads to create a dazzling pair of earrings.

Multi-Stranded Necklace with Meg- 2 different dates to choose from in February.
Thursday, Feb. 7 OR Fri. Feb. 22 ~6-9 pm ~ $30+ supplies. 1 Evening Session-
In this class, you will learn about the versatility of beading wire and crimp beads as you create a unique multi-stranded necklace. The class will cover color and design tips, stringing techniques, and explore imaginative ways to finish off your work using various types of findings and clasps. This class is a good way for those with some previous experience to expand it, and move on.

Socks with Jan - 2 DIFFERENT SESSIONS TO CHOOSE FROM!
Fri. Feb. 8 and 22 - 10 am - 12 pm OR Mon. Feb. 25 and March 10 ~ 1-3 pm~ $30 + supplies. Each class is 2 sessions, with break in between.
Learn to make socks! Casting on,reading a pattern, using double-pointed needles, ribbing, stockinette, purling and more with Jan. This class is good for both beginners and intermediate levels.

Mittens with Jan
Mon. Feb. 11-18 ~ 6:30 - 8:30 pm ~ $25 + supplies. 2 Evening sessions.
In this class, you will learn the basic techniques for knitting mittens. You will leave with the knowledge to complete a toasty pair of mittens to keep your hands warm this winter. All levels are welcome in this fun-filled class; however, it is helpful if you know how to cast on, knit and purl.

Needle Felted Beads and Buttons
Tuesday, Feb. 12 ~ 6-9 pm ~ $35 + supplies. 1 Evening session.
The world of beading becomes even more expansive when you learn to make your own needle felted beads and buttons! participants will create their own necklace or braclelt and matching coat buttons in this basic class. Available for any level.

Magic Loop Socks with Gail
Fri. Feb. 1 and 15 ~ 6-8 pm ~ $30 + supplies. 2 Evening sessions, with a break in between.
learn to make a sock on one long size 4 circular needle, with worsted weight yarn. Make socks without double-pointed needles. The first session, you will learn the cast on technique,and in the second, you will turn the heels. When you master this easy technique, you will then be able to knit two socks at a time - NO Second Sock Syndrome!
Skill level: you need to know how to cast on and knit. Sock expereince is useful, but not necessary.

Needle Felted Flowers
Sunday, Feb. 17 ~ 1 - 4 pm ~ $35 + $5 materials fee. 1/2 day session.
Learn to needle felt and make up to three basic flower shapes, including a rose, lily and camellia. You will learn the basics of needle felting while constructing beautiful blooms that are wonderful to wear and display. Beginners welcome!

How to Finish a Sweater with Jan- 2 DIFFERENT SESSIONS TO CHOOSE FROM!
Thurs. Feb. 21 ~ 6-8 pm OR Fri.Feb. 29 ~ 1-3 pm ~ $20 ~
Having trouble putting all those carefully knitted pieces together to actually finish your sweater? Then this is the perfect class for you!

MARCH CLASSES

Gnomes with Emily
Tues March 4 ~ 5 - 9 pm ~ $40 + $10 supplies.1 Evening session.
Participants in this workshop will learn needle felting to create a whimsical woodland character. Embellish your gnome with a curly beard and hair, dress him in felted clothing, and give him a unique personality. Beginners or intermediates welcome.

Wed. March 12 ~ 1-4 pm ~ $20 + supplies.1 Afternoon session.
In this class, you will learn the basic techniques for knitting: casting on, knitting,purling,increasing, decreasing, binding off, and a variety of stitches. Participants will be able to knit a scarf from start to finish.

Crochet Techniques with Mary & Karen
Thurs. March 13 ~ 6:30 - 8:30 pm ~ $20 + supplies.1 Evening session.
Learn the basics:how to chain, single, double and circular crochet, increasing,decreasing,finishing and other fun stuff from the Daring Duo!

Friendship Bag with Susannah
Mon. March 17 - 24 ~ 6:30 - 8:30 pm ~ $35 + supplies. 2 Evening sessions.
Learn to make a wonderful knitting bag, using size 15 - 17 circular needles, Jumbo-loop mohair from Cherry Tree Hill, and have fun embellishing with beads,buttons,wire or........?

Creative Scarf with Susannah
Fri. March 21 ~ 6-9 pm ~$25 + supplies. 1 Evening session.
Have fun and be creative to make this unusual knitted scarf with embellishment!

Jewelry Making with Beads
Sunday, March 23 ~ 1-4 pm ~ $25 + supplies. One half-day session.
In this entry level class, you will learn the techniques of working with wire, beads, using crimps and attaching clasps. You will also learn the proper materials for stringing beads, and can make a necklace or bracelet, using your choice of beads.

Needle Felted Animals
Sunday, March 30 ~ 1-4 pm ~ $35 + supplies ~ Half-Day Session.
Using colorful wool roving, participants will learn the basics of needle felting while creating your own felted animal for a toy or ornament. Choose from kittens to puppies, weasels to wolves, rabbits,porcupines, or others and let your creativity come out and play in this workshop!

Community Knitting
Come to knit with others
for others, or yourself ! We offer an opportunity to knit for people in need, locally or globally - you can pick your favorite group, or choose from the many out there: Afghans for Afghans, Pet Mats for the Humane Society, Chemo Caps and others.If you love to knit, but are tired of knitting for yourself, or making too many scarves, try this for a change! Or bring something you're already working on - there will be an experienced knitter to help if necessary.
Wednesday Evenings 5- 9 pm- FREE!

Further Class Info:$20 non-refundable deposit required to reserve space.
10% discount on supplies at classes. Please allow time to pick out your supplies, and arrive a bit early - since we KNOW that picking out the PERFECT yarns and beads always takes a bit longer than we think.....
Class samples can be seen at the store.
You may always bring your own beads, yarns, tools, etc. to the classes.
Birthday Parties for Kids and Adults are available at the store.
Private classes available - ask Susannah or Grace for more information.
If you can't come to all the classes in a session, the cost remains the same - just the same as college,computer courses,etc.
There is a Class Minimum of 4 people; if it's not met, the class will not be held - please check with us the day before the class.
